The suburban Chicago (Park Ridge) Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), seeks an Education and Certification Manager. This position will work half-time on a portfolio-based certification program (for the GIS Certification Institute) and half-time on education offerings including a peer-reviewed journal, workshop development, and publications program expansion. The ideal candidate will work closely with committee members and senior staff to develop new program content and update current programs to meet the needs of the membership (Note: this is not a meeting planning position).
Manage the Workshop Committee and annual workshop development, update, and review process.
Manage the article submission and production process for a peer-reviewed scholarly journal. Ensure that each journal issue is produced and delivered to the membership in a timely manner.
Manage the publications program (both print and web-based) and work with the committee to develop new titles. Coordinate the design, editing, proofreading, composition and printing of publications. Generate content for educational programs and manage their delivery.
Manage the certification program and process of a related association. Dialog formally and informally with interested parties about the certification process. Provide support to the Board of Directors and related committees. Manage the certification application review process. Provide supervision to the Certification Coordinator. Support policy and professional advocacy activities through writings and personal presentations.
Requirements
Must have a proven track record of managing projects and processes for an organization (association management experience is preferred). Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be well-organized and be able to balance numerous ongoing projects at the same time with different timetables and deliverables. Must be well poised and project driven and have proven success working with volunteer member committees. Proven budget and fiscal abilities; interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and a team orientation. Excellent Microsoft Office and project management skills are required along with database management experience. Website (Dreamweaver and Drupal) development and maintenance is a plus. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ideal candidate will support and actively build an office culture dedicated to superior customer service that exceeds member and volunteer expectations. GISP certification is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree is required. Course work in spatial data is desired.
