Mapping Technologist / Aerial Camera Operator - Markham, Canada
Description: First Base Solutions Inc. provides custom mapping and land base data for private and public sectors involved in planning, design, and management of land-related activities. We are experts in utilizing aerial photography and sophisticated interpretative equipment in the production of topographic mapping, orthophoto mapping, flood plain mapping, utility base mapping, and thematic mapping.
DESCRIPTION: We are recruiting to fill an exciting position responsible for the operation of our 86 megapixel Vexcel Digital Camera while onboard an aircraft. The Mapping Technologist / Aerial Camera Operator is also responsible for operating the Applanix POS Track GNSS-Aided Inertial Direct Georeferencing and the advanced Flight Management Systems.
The candidate will be conducting image quality control in the field and office as well as assisting with aerial photo flight planning, pre-mission planning for specific project requirements and weather monitoring. Regular maintenance, transportation, troubleshooting and assisting with the installation of the camera equipment (30-150lbs) are also responsibilities. Other duties include set up and operation of base stations, collection of ground control, file management and transfer of image and supporting data between the aircraft and office. Mapping responsibilities include orthophoto quality control and processing, assisting with DTM assembly and colour balancing along with fixes and edits to orthophotos.
REQUIREMENTS: Excellent communication skills are necessary. The successful candidate must be an independent worker and comfortable working in a moving aircraft for several hours at a time. This position involves extended periods of travel during flying seasons. Candidates must possess a valid Driver’s License and valid Passport. A background in mapping is preferable.
