Closing Plenary Session
The Address – From a USPS® Perspective
Maintaining address data in the USPS is extremely important to postal operations as well as mailing industry and postal customers. Address quality for the USPS is composed of complete and correct address elements which ensures mail is delivered to the correct address and to the correct recipient every time.
The USPS strives to maintain current and accurate address information; this can only be achieved through a variety of processes and cooperation with other addressing professionals. Learn how the USPS perceives an address and how an address becomes a vital component for all business organizations.

Our closing plenary session keynote speaker will be James Wilson, USPS, Memphis, TN.
James Wilson is the Manager Address Management for the United States Postal Service within the Intelligent Mail & Address Quality organization.  He has worked in the address technology field for the past 22 years and has been involved in every major USPS® addressing program since 1988.  He started out as a contractor with the USPS managing the USPS effort to compile a national address database of every delivery point in the country served by the USPS. This data now serves as the underlying foundation of the USPS Address Management System.

In 1997 he became a career postal employee responsible for administration of the USPS National Change of Address program. He was subsequently promoted to the position of Manager Address Technology and oversees the development efforts of key addressing systems used in both internal postal operations and commercial address hygiene applications. In the past 10 years, he has been awarded nine separate patents relating to various addressing technologies, with an additional twelve patents pending.

In 2009 he was selected as the Manager Address Management and assumed Headquarter-level responsibility for all USPS addressing-related activities. In addition to managing the National Customer Support Center in Memphis TN and oversees the efforts of the fourteen postal personnel and 260 contractors engaged in various aspects of address management and technology.
