Three pre-conference workshops are being presented on Tuesday, August 4 in order to allow attendees to take advantage of the full-day comprehensive courses offered by NENA and URISA (without taking a separate trip). Three workshops will be presented and class size is limited. You are encouraged to register early in order to reserve your first choice.
These workshops are scheduled in Providence and are described in detail below:
As we move towards the implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1, a new set of technological, operational, and public policy issues that 9-1-1 professionals, industry partners, and government officials must understand is emerging. NG9-1-1 will change how emergency service calls originate, as well as how they are routed and delivered to PSAPs.
This course is designed to help attendees evaluate both the promise and potential pitfalls of this new system. It revolutionizes how the public accesses emergency services and alters the entire technological landscape within which existing public safety agencies operate. In addition to addressing how NG will transform the traditional 9-1-1 model, the course also examines the evolution of IP-based communications, NENA’s involvement, and transition issues. This constantly updated, one-of-a-kind offering covers these issues and more, and is for anyone looking to see what the future holds for emergency response.
Instructors:
Street addresses are the key, user-friendly geospatial identifier used by everyone, but addressing processes are usually poorly organized at the local level.
This workshop will help you understand the addressing process, managing address data, and organizational challenges. It will guide you in developing a Master Address Repository that serves the needs of the entire organization.
Specific topics include:
Instructors:
Is your data good enough for 9-1-1? Can your GIS data meet the needs of today and tomorrow? What do you need to do to ensure that your data meets the high degree of accuracy necessary for efficient and effective emergency response?
Take this course and move beyond the basic theory of GIS with in-depth instruction in areas relevant to PSAP operations and NG9-1-1 data preparation. Attendees will become versed in the methods, standards, and best practices needed to create and maintain highly accurate GIS data for current and future 9-1-1 systems. Further, experienced GIS users will explore critical topics such as relevant NENA standards, mapping accuracy, data synchronization issues, verification of wireless Phase I & II information, and funding and revenue concerns.
In addition to standard course materials, each attendee will receive a 90-day evaluation copy of ESRI’s ArcView GIS.
