In my opinion, one of URISA's best programs is the Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Awards.
It really is a BIG DEAL to be recognized (whether as an exemplary or distinguished system)!
Sure, it is a commitment to apply for an ESIG award. It takes time. You have to include a lot of detail about your system and gather user testimonials. (Those who submit say that the process is really satisfying, however. Documenting your accomplishments and successes does validate the effort you and your staff put into your work!)
Take a moment to read a great interview URISA President-Elect Greg Babinski recently gave Cadalyst about GIS Leaders... and register to attend the ULA today!
The members of URISA's Address Standards Working Group (Carl Anderson, GISP, Hilary Perkins, GISP, Ed Wells, GISP, Martha Wells, GISP, and Sara Yurman, GISP) cannot receive enough recognition for their Herculean effort over the past five + years developing the United States Thoroughfare, Landmark, and Postal Address Data Standard. The Federal Geographic Data Committee endorsed the standard recently.
Really looking forward to GIS-Pro 2011 in Indianapolis in November. The conference committee is really shaking things up with labs, interactive sessions, working groups. And the conference site (both the JW Marriott and the City of Indianapolis) will truly facilitate networking and professional connections. Lots of seating areas and diversions at the JW and Indianapolis itself offers tons of things to do within the immediate surrounding area.
Make plans to be there! http://www.urisa.org/gispro2011

Across the board, GIS-Pro 2010 in Orlando was a positive and energizing conference. The presentations, interactive discussions, networking events and hallway conversations were all spectacular. Thanks to the conference committee under the leadership of Danielle, Geney and Claudia! And thanks to my great URISA staff (Verlanda, Pat, Katie, Jeni and Ann) for your hard work and dedication!
Congratulations to Dana Tomlin! Dr. Tomlin will be inducted into URISA's GIS Hall of Fame during the GIS-Pro 2010 conference in Orlando! http://www.urisa.org/hall/tomlin
Hotel reservations deadline approaching (September 3) for GIS-Pro 2010 in Orlando. Don't delay!
