URISA's 2012 Caribbean GIS Conference

URISA is pleased to announce the completion of the Sixth Caribbean GIS Conference which took place November 12-16, 2012 at the Hilton Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The conference, by all accounts, was a resounding success and attendees are looking forward to connecting in the coming months for additional educational programs leading up to the next URISA Caribbean GIS Conference.

The conference began with training courses and workshops. The conference included important keynote speeches, dozens of concurrent sessions on valuable topics, valuable time with exhibitors, and a high-level meeting focused on geospatial information management in the Caribbean. The first ever Ignite session was also presented during the conference, which will certainly be a conference mainstay in the future. Of course, there was also informal time to strengthen professional connections and friendships!

Thank you to all of the speakers who shared information and ideas, to the exhibitors and sponsors who supported the conference, and to the delegates who brought their interests and varied perspectives to the conference ... combining to make the conference a valuable experience for all!

The Honorable Robert Pickersgill, Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, welcomes delegates to the conference. Pictured with Valrie Grant, Conference Chair and Nadine Brown, Program Chair.

URISA's Immediate Past President, Greg Babinski, taught the GIS Program Management workshop, presented two papers and welcomed attendees on behalf of URISA.

Vanessa Lawrence, Director General and Chief Executive of the Ordnance Survey, greets delegates and makes introductory remarks via skype prior to her keynote address.

Conference Chair and URISA Caribbean Chapter President Valrie Grant, GISP facilitates a high level geospatial information management meeting. Stay tuned for information about the resolutions adopted during this ground-breaking meeting.

Mr. E.G. Hunter, CEO of the National Works Agency, addresses the conference on the topic of how expanding an entity's GIS creates major organizational challenges and financial opportunities.
