November – Pictometry
Title:       Pictometry web integration and Deployment
Description: Joshua Pope Mr. Pope began his career in technical support roles, soon migrating to an IT support technician position with a Pictometry customer in Macon Co., NC. He was then promoted to a GIS technician and quickly became the County’s GIS Administrator. Mr. Pope reworked the County’s public-facing website and updated the enterprise-level GIS system so that it was more efficient to better meet the needs of the County’s 300 employees. He then undertook to create a GIS educational program, which he brought to area grammar schools to explain what GIS is, what it means to the public, and its importance in most workplaces.

Mr. Pope restructured and updated the County’s entire GIS system and provided technical support to the County and its specialized agencies. He faced his biggest challenge in 2004 when Hurricane Ivan devastated the area and caused a 3-mile long landslide. Thanks to the FEMA disaster preparedness training he had previously taken at FEMA’s Emergency Management Training Center, Mr. Pope immediately became a resource to the Macon County Emergency Management Team and the National Guard by providing existing maps of the disaster areas. He then GPS’d the entire area from a helicopter and created new GIS maps of the devastated areas for the emergency responders’ use.

Mr. Pope came to Pictometry in 2010 as the Regional Technical Manager in the Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas. Now supporting Florida, he is Pictometry’s customers’ first line of support for software implementations, trouble shooting, supplemental training and technical support. His IT experience allows him to trouble shoot both the IT and GIS sides of any installation, making him doubly valuable to our customers.
