Sponsor Promotion

Diamond Conference Sponsor:

"For me, it is the opportunity to network with people who use GIS in a wide range of industries and disciplines, and to discover unique applications of GIS in this range of disciplines that I might not have known about otherwise. Not only does GIS-Pro host GIS practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, but it's also home to a healthy discussion of open-source GIS alternatives and how they're used to assist with natural resource management, urban planning, environmental science, and everything in between. Not to mention, geographers know where it's at and know how to have a good time. These are good people, and that's a reason to go in its own right!" - Andy Hayslip, Environmental Specialist/GIS Analyst, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)

The entire city is easily accessible from the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel.  Exit the hotel's front doors, cross historic Canal Street and you're in the French Quarter, home to famous restaurants and nightclubs, live music, fantastic shopping, museums and historic sites, unique architecture and a one-of-a-kind, spirited atmosphere. You are just steps from the Aquarium of Americas and the IMAX Theatre, the National World War II Museum, Harrah's New Orleans Casino, and popular shopping destinations including the new Outlet Collection at Riverwalk New Orleans.  The hotel is located on the New Orleans Streetcar line, so you can catch a breezy, relaxing ride up Canal Street to City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art. For those of you who attended URISA's 2008 conference ...it's the same hotel, though substantially renovated and upgraded since then! Perfect venue!

URISA GIS-Pro Conference room rate: $165 single/double with complimentary in-room Internet for those who reserve within the URISA block. The GIS-Pro room rate will be available until August 18 or until the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first.

Click the link below to make your hotel reservations online or call (888) 627-7033 and reference URISA to gain access to the group discounted rates:

Be sure to make note of your hotel confirmation number as you'll need that when registering for the conference!

Participate

Present - Even though the deadline to submit abstracts has passed, there are still opportunities to share your big  ideas, research and success stories. We are particularly interested in your ideas for lightning talks (Ignite session on Monday evening, September 8) and lunchtime presentations (session on Tuesday, September 9).  (Click here for a description of presentation formats.)  Please email your presentation title and abstract to Pat Francis, along with your selected presentation format and contact information to be considered for the conference program. Note that:

  • All accepted presenters must submit either a formal paper (preferred but not required) or presentation with notes (i.e. PowerPoint/Prezi) during the conference for inclusion in the conference proceedings. Your session moderator will collect the papers/presentations during the conference on a thumb drive.
  • All accepted presenters must register and pay the regular conference registration fee. Acceptance as a presenter does not register you for the conference — registration fees are required. Presenters must register by July 21, 2014 and are encouraged to take advantage of early registration and membership discounts.
  • All participants must read and abide by the URISA Event Code of Conduct to promote a respectful experience for all.

Student Volunteer - Find out about opportunities for students to volunteer at the conference (a great opportunity to network with professionals and expand your network) and receive complimentary attendance in return. Click here for information about student volunteer opportunities and details about the Student Competition.
