“The explosive growth in the use of mobile phones, tablets and other location-aware devices is fundamentally changing the nature of emergency dispatch as well as the delivery of other services to consumers and the public at large. Next Generation 9-1-1 technology, GIS technology, and the creation of address repositories and address point layers are critical elements needed to provide working solutions to the challenges posed by the changing nature of the marketplace. Anyone who is, or will be, involved in the development or use of these spatial databases and tools should attend this conference.”
- Tom East, GISP, Senior GIS Specialist, Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission
The URISA/NENA Addressing Conference has been re-engineered for 2013 and we are pleased to introduce the Locating The Future Conference taking place November 3-6, 2013.
URISA International, the Association for GIS Professionals, and the National Emergency Numbering Association (NENA) have once again partnered to present the preeminent conference about addressing in North America. Since 1996, addresses have been the leading theme of this annual conference, tackling important topics such as Census programs, address standards, legal issues with addresses and, most recently, NextGen9-1-1 and the importance of spatially accurate addresses.
As the conference has evolved over the last sixteen years, the emphasis on addresses has also advanced in order to keep up with changes in technology and the way addresses are created, collected and maintained. By transitioning to Locating the Future, conference attendees can still expect great educational presentations on the nuts and bolts of addressing, 911 and GIS integration, and hot topics surrounding addressing methods. Additionally, attendees at the 2013 Locating the Future Conference can see and hear about addressing for future applications in advancing technologies such as Location-Based services (LBS), automated routing, and crowd sourced data.
The conference educational program is organized by a volunteer committee of URISA and NENA members, led by 2013 Co-Chairs:
- William Barrett - City of Marion, IL 911 Coordinator
- Tom East-Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission, Ft. Mitchell, KY

The only conference where GIS professionals, addressing coordinators, 9-1-1 and emergency response specialists come together for education and networking.
Presentations - The conference is developed through a peer review of abstracts received through the Call for Presentation Proposals. The abstract submission deadline has passed, however late submissions may be considered. Please email Pat Francis with your presentation proposal. Some of the topics being discussed:
