Friday, October 1, 2010

Back to Main Conference Program Page

On Friday, conference attendees met as a group to further identify solutions to the ongoing/recurring GIS problems and issues in organizations across North America, that have been identified during the conference. This interactive and important session focused on potential solutions which you'll be hearing a lot more about! the collective energy and expertise of URISA members and conference attendees will make things happen.

Then, Zsolt Nagy and Dr. Barry Wellar provided their closing comments for the conference and we can't thank them enough!

Zsolt Nagy, GISP, Senior Project Manager with AECOM

In his remarks, Zsolt drew on his current and previous experiences to speak on the directions and opportunities to identify, collaborate, and advance geospatial priorities. Given the interactive nature of the conference and the challenge to dig deeper on the issues, this session centered on key discussions of the week to help move the conversation forward into the coming year.

Barry Wellar, PhD, GISP - EXCELLING IN GIS MEANS RUNNING WITH THE BIG DOGS

The closing plenary was a challenge for GIS professionals to excel. "Don't be mediocre in your jobs!"

Again, thank you to Dr. Wellar and all of our speakers!

URISA Annual Business Meeting

The conference closed with Twyla McDermott's URISA Secretary's Report, Greg Babinski's Treasurer's Report and some heartfelt words from Kathrine Cargo about her just concluded presidential term. We also recognized Board members who concluded their service on the URISA Board of Directors: Hilary Perkins, Sandi Majewski, Cindy Braddock and Greg Babinski. And we also welcomed incoming Board members: Tom Conry, Nancy Obermeyer and Christopher Thomas and President-Elect, Greg Babinski.

At that point, Kathrine handed the gavel over to Cy Smith, who will be URISA President for the coming year!

See you in Indy, November 1-4, 2011! Watch for announcements about presentation opportunities and other ways to get involved!
