Purpose of Position: 
Maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) data, metadata, applications, maps, reports, queries, etc.

 Essential Functions: 

  • Undertake data analyses and data conversion.
  • Produce professional quality maps, map books and reports.
  • Download Global Positioning System (GPS) data and import into the GIS database.
  • Apply quality control procedures on the data to ensure its accuracy.
  • Communicate with external clients regarding GIS data requirements.
  • Develops automation within the ArcGIS environment using scripting languages, Python and VB.
  • Maintain and update several GIS layers and corresponding metadata.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in applied science (mathematics, computer science, geography, physics, etc.) and 1 year of professional experience in GIS techniques and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Bachelor of Science in Geography, GIS, or Cartography. Project management experience and knowledge of statistical analysis. Knowledge in cartography and surveying. Skill in ArcGIS Desktop Advance and other ESRI software. Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision. Be self-motivated. Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Climbing of stairs.

Additional Information:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
