We seek a dynamic, articulate leader with a background in planning and IT to manage the Research & Technology Center (RTC) in Montgomery County, located on the northern border of Washington, D.C.
The RTC advises the Montgomery County Planning Board and supports its staff in one of the nation’s largest planning departments and a parks system of over 33,000 acres with information systems programming, data collection, analysis, and policy development.
Montgomery County, the economic engine of Maryland, is transforming from a Washington, D.C., suburb to an urbanizing area of 1 million residents. Aided by progressive planning policies, the county features high-tech centers, vibrant downtowns like Silver Spring and Bethesda, and working farms, thanks to one of the nation’s first transfer of development rights programs.
To support the Planning Department’s emphasis on sustainability and urban design, the RTC chief oversees:
• an IT and telecommunications infrastructure
• growth management and housing policy
• demographic, land use and economic data collection and analysis
• GIS management/ land use databases
• development of infrastructure financing tools
We are looking for someone who can jump in as we prepare our 2009 county growth policy. The right person can elevate our technology to support a new level of outreach and interaction, while overseeing the research to support the planning efforts of the department. Help influence the social and physical character in Montgomery County, one of the nation’s great diverse landscapes.
Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in planning, information technology, or related subjects; eight years of related experience; six years progressive managerial and supervisory experience, and strong IT experience with advanced web applications and network building experience a must. Salary Commensurate with experience: ($75,036 - $128,399)
