URISA GIS Education in 2015

Published Friday, January 16, 2015

“The people I rely on the most in my career are those I've personally met and spent quality time with at URISA conferences. They are the ones I count on when I get stuck trying to find information or when I have a problem I’m trying to solve at work.” – Hilary Perkins, GISP, AICP, City of Maryland Heights, Missouri

URISA has a number of educational programs on the calendar in 2015. Whether you wish to participate as an attendee, presenter or exhibitor/sponsor, the opportunities are  numerous:

March 2-5, 2015
19th Annual GIS/CAMA Technologies Conference
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Presented in partnership with the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), the conference features a busy exhibit hall, preconference workshops, keynote presentations and twenty-one breakout sessions on topics ranging from “Specialty Property Valuation Considerations” to “Imagery from Satellites to Street Fronts”. A dynamic panel discussion on the “Future of Assessing” will imagine what the future holds for assessors and the larger world of data sharing.

  • Upcoming Deadline: Hotel block closes February 9
  • Only two booth spaces left

June 1-3, 2015
21st Annual California GIS Conference
Sacramento, California

Managed by URISA and presented by all four California Chapters of URISA and the California GIS Association, CalGIS 2015 is the place for California GIS professionals to convene for focused education and networking each year.

  • Upcoming Deadline: Abstract submissions due February 2

June 22-26, 2015
URISA Leadership Academy
Denver, Colorado

The success of any GIS program is largely tied to the capabilities of its leader. Strong leadership is necessary to establish a solid GIS program, operate efficiently and effectively, coordinate participants, adapt to change, and move a program forward. Since 2007, the URISA Leadership Academy has provided five days of targeted GIS leadership training...taught by GIS leaders. Be part of the 2015 cohort!

  • Upcoming Deadline: Super-early rate (save $400) available until March 1

September 1-3, 2015
GIS in Transit Conference
Washington, DC

Presented again in collaboration with the National Center for Transit Research and the Transportation Research Board, this conference is for transit planners, managers, researchers and GIS experts who are interested in sharing ways to use geographic and spatial analysis in transit planning, operations, and marketing to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Presentation and exhibit/sponsorship opportunities will be promoted shortly.

  • Upcoming Deadline: Abstract submissions will be due March 23

October 18-22, 2015
GIS-Pro & NWGIS 2015
Spokane, Washington

URISA, the Northwest GIS User Group (NWGIS), and the Northern Rockies and Washington Chapters of URISA are pleased to announce the Call for Presentations for their jointly-sponsored conference, GIS-Pro & NWGIS 2015. Because there is an abundance of conferences for the geospatial community, the organizations decided to work together for GIS-Pro & NWGIS 2015. The goal is to complement, not compete with, each organization's community of members and allow participants to take advantage of important vendor-neutral education and networking in one place, at one time.

Upcoming Deadlines:

  • Abstract submissions due March 2
  • Exhibit & Sponsor opportunities will be detailed in February

Don’t forget to check out partner and chapter events on our Industry Events Calendar. What’s on the horizon in 2016? A URISA Caribbean GIS Conference, a URISA GIS in Public Health Conference, GIS/CAMA’s 20th Anniversary Conference (in Savannah, Georgia) and GIS-Pro 2016.
