Abstract submissions for URISA’s GIS in Public Health Conference will be accepted until January 31, (extended to) February 11, 2013. The conference will take place in Miami, Florida, June 17-20, 2013 and is chaired by long-time program committee member, Jason K. Blackburn, PhD, Emerging Pathogens Institute & Department of Geography at the University of Florida.
Des Plaines, IL (November 7, 2012) – URISA is pleased to announce the availability of the 2013 Vanguard Cabinet application. Submissions from interested young professionals are due on or before December 17, 2012.
Caribbean GIS professionals will soon convene in Montego Bay, Jamaica for the Sixth URISA Caribbean GIS Conference taking place November 12-16 at the Hilton Rose Hall. From preconference workshops and classes (including two-day ArcGIS Online and Mobile and Server GIS classes and URISA's GIS Program Management and Open Source GIS workshops) to a High Level Caribbean Geospatial Information Management Meeting, the conference showcases the best of GIS in the region. Discounted preconference registration rates expire on November 2.
The four California URISA Chapters, along with the California Geographic Information Association (CGIA), are pleased to present the 19th Annual CalGIS Conference taking place April 15-17, 2013 in Long Beach. The deadline for abstract submissions (and also for registration at the super-early discounted rate) is November 1.

The U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) has incorporated URISA’s Geospatial Management Competency Model (GMCM) in its Competency Model Clearinghouse (http://www.careeronestop.org/competencymodel/). This endorsement follows a year-long effort to draft the GMCM by a task force of 18 contributors and a public review process that attracted 100 comments.
URISA is pleased to announce the recipients of 2012 URISA Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Awards. Since 1980, URISA’s ESIG Awards have recognized exceptional achievements in the application of information technology that have improved the delivery and quality of government services.
