Keynote Speakers Featured at 2011 GIS in Public Transportation Conference

URISA and the University of South Florida’s National Center for Transit Research at the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) are pleased to feature two keynote speakers for the 2011 GIS in Public Transportation Conference, which will take place at the Hilton Bayfront in St. Petersburg, Florida, September 13-15, 2011.

The opening keynote address on the morning of September 14 is Missed Opportunity: Transit and Jobs in Metropolitan America.

Abstracts Sought for 2012 GIS/CAMA Technologies Conference

The International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) are pleased to announce the 16th Annual GIS/CAMA (Geographic Information Systems / Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal) Technologies Conference, to be held March 12-15, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in San Antonio, Texas.

2011 GIS in Public Transportation Conference Details Announced

URISA and the University of South Florida’s National Center for Transit Research at the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) are pleased to announce the details of the 2011 GIS in Public Transportation Conference, which will take place at the Hilton Bayfront in St. Petersburg, Florida, September 13-15, 2011.

URISA Certified Workshops will open the conference on Tuesday, September 13. Attendees may choose to attend Asset Management: Planning, Strategy, and Implementation or GIS Program Management.

Feature Speakers for URISA/NENA Addressing Conference Highlighted

URISA and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) are pleased to announce the feature speakers at the 2011 URISA/NENA Addressing Conference taking place next month in New Orleans (August 15-18, 2011 at the Marriott New Orleans). Michelle Thompson, PhD from the University of New Orleans will open the conference and Steven Johnson, representing OpenStreetMap US, will close the conference.

URISA Supports GIS Day Student Poster Competitions

Poster competitions are an excellent means of illustrating and testing how well students are able to demonstrate both research skills and communication skills. Many geography and GIS degree and certificate programs sponsor student poster competitions, particularly as part of their GIS Day events. GIS Day 2011 is Wednesday, November 16, 2011 and URISA is pleased to announce its support of GIS Day student poster competitions.

ESIG Award Deadline Approaching

May 27, 2011 (Des Plaines, IL) - The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) is accepting applications for its Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Awards through Monday, June 6, 2011. The awards recognize exceptional achievements in the application of geospatial information technology that have improved the delivery and quality of government services.

Applications may be submitted in two categories, Single Process and Enterprise Systems:

April 28, 2011 (Des Plaines, IL) – URISA is pleased to announce the details of its 2011 GIS in Public Health Conference, taking place in Atlanta, June 27-30, 2011. The deadline to take advantage of discounted registration and hotel fees is June 1.

United States Thoroughfare, Landmark, and Postal Address Data Standard Endorsed by FGDC

On February 9, 2011, the Steering Committee of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) endorsed the United States Thoroughfare, Landmark and Postal Address Data Standard. 

The Standard is the culmination of efforts of the Address Standard Working Group, which was created in 2005 when the FGDC accepted a proposal submitted by the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) to create a Street Address Standard.

URISA's GISCorps Actively Supporting Two Projects in Caribbean

At URISA’s 2010 Caribbean GIS Conference in Trinidad, MapAction volunteers who participated in the on-the-ground response immediately following the devastating Haiti earthquake last year, spoke about the importance of readily available and accurate data in such a response.
