data.gov is a site designed for public participation in shaping future access to government information. It is an online platform that was launched to evolve data.gov.
One idea for which they're looking for comment is that data.gov should "... become a nationally managed "access point" that provides a mechanism for all levels of government to participate or integrate with, thus creating a single location for citizens to access government data."

URISA has not taken a stand on this issue, but the concept is similar to the NSDI and NSGIC discusses something equally similar on it's 2009 Advocacy Agenda.
What do you think? Is this finally a way to start addressing national data issues? Or is it just another bit of wishful thinking from the Department of Redundancy Department?
