You'll be interested to know that the US Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration's Occupational Information Network (O*NET) now lists five new geospatial occupations: "Geospatial Information Scientists and Technologists", "Remote Sensing Scientists and Technologists", "Geographic Information Systems Technicians", "Precision Agriculture Technicians", and "Geodetic Surveyors".
You can find descriptions of most of these new occupations by doing an "Occupation Quick Search" on "geospatial" at the O*NET site http://online.onetcenter.org/ (Geodetic Surveyors seems not to include the keyword "geospatial.")
This is a long-awaited step forward for the GIS&T field. I'm proud to be working with many of you to complete the Geospatial Technology Competency Model that will provide an industry context for these newly-defined occupations.
