Each year, URISA brings professionals from around the world to one location in order to share IT solutions to urban and regional challenges. The annual conference typically includes more than 150 educational sessions presented by experts in their fields. The conference program includes topics such as policy & management, community use of GIS, technology innovations, practical applications, government productivity, and global and local data standards. The papers presented at the conference as the conference proceedings, an invaluable resource!

1997 (Toronto, ON, Canada): The topics discussed at this conference include the most recent innovations in the spatial information field. In order to stay abreast of current information, these proceedings are a must. The topics covered at the 1997 conference include: Business Process & Data Model Management, Census, Canadian & International Perspectives, Environmental Analysis & Assessment, GIS Management & Operations, Information Systems & Technology, National Spatial Data Infrastructure, Public Works, Research & Emerging Technologies, Real Property Assessment and Transportation. 1996 (Salt Lake City, UT) : The 1996 proceedings reveal recent information on a number of important topics to the spatial information management professional, such as: Business, Community Development and Public Safety. One article of particular interest is, "GIS and Spatial Performances Evaluation: The Health System Case" by Piero Secondini, Enzo Ravaglia and Giovanni Virgilio. Hard Copy Only.

1995 (San Antonio, TX): 1995 was an exceptional proceedings papers year. In fact, two were selected Horwood Critique Winners. "A New Model for Handling Vector Data Uncertainty in Geographic Information Systems" by Gary J. Hunter and Michael F. Goodchild discusses a model which permits a population of distorted versions of the same map to be generated and demonstrates its implementation in practice. The second went to Hyong-Bok Kim and Lewis D. Hopkins for their paper, "Capacity Expansion Modeling of Water Supply in a Planning Support System for Urban Growth Management". The student winner of 1995 was Xavier R. Lopez. Lopez's paper is entitled "From Gravel to Diamonds: The National Spatial Data Infrastructure at a Crossroads". 1994 (Milwaukee, WI): Interested in saving money? The "Dollars & Sense" section found in the 1994 proceedings will provide you with many ideas and options that will stand the test of time. Some other high points from this year's proceedings are the articles written on demographics.  Hard Copy Only.

1993 (Atlanta, GA): If you've ever been curious on how Spatial Information deals with people and the "real world", these proceedings will walk you through examples of the technology at work in the world today and its impact on the community it serves. The theme of the 1993 conference is "Winning With People, Data, & Technology". The conference's topics outlined this through their focus on such things as GIS partnerships and how technology relates to real world problems.  Hard Copy Only.

1992 (Washington, DC): Sold out.

1991 (San Francisco, CA): The 1991 conference proceedings are written on a large array of topics, many of which are also discussed in the 1990 and 1989 proceedings. These topics include: Infrastructure Management, Transportation, Public Safety, Land Records Modernization, Environment & Natural Resource Management, Geographic Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence/Knowledge-Based Systems, Education/Technology Transfer, New Technology, Urban & Regional Analysis, Regional Agencies, Public Information and State/Province. These proceedings also contain a unique, riveting volume, entitled "Policies, Plans and Programs: Thirty Years in Perspective". 1990 (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada): The 1990 proceedings not only contain valuable information on all of the topics found in the 1991 proceedings, but also an interesting section on Information Resources Management. This section includes two outstanding papers: "Data Resource Management at the Surveys and Resource Mapping Branch - B.C. Ministry of Crown Lands", by Elaine M.J. Dawson and Dianne E. Allen and "Integrating GIS Within a Corporate Database Management Strategy", by Bryan Stockton.  Hard Copy Only.

1989 (Boston, MA): The 1989 proceedings still contain important information on the topics discussed in the previous volumes. These proceedings also include the paper, "Facing Reality in GIS Implementation: Lessons Learned and Obstacles to be Overcome", by Peter L. Croswell; the Horwood Critique Prize winner. Also contained in these proceedings is an award winning paper on, "Assessment of and Agenda for Using Property Tax Data in Urban and Regional Analysis", by David Prosperi.
