URISA 2003 Salary Survey for IT/GIS Professionals

1998 marked the first URISA Salary Survey. In 2000 the survey was greatly expanded making it the premier source for GIS and IT salary information. Based on the success of its predecessors and the high-level of demand for more information by URISA members, the 2003 Salary Survey has been further expanded and includes a much wider-range of detailed information. Additions include number of staff supervised, computer skill requirements, educational level, years of experience, and department in which the GIS or IT professional works.

More than 2,000 respondents participated in this survey!

This new publication provides the answers to these important questions:

  • What are the differences in pay between GIS and/or IT managers, analysts, coordinators?
  • What additional forms of compensation/benefits do organizations offer?
  • How does your pay and benefits package stack up against your peers?
  • Where are the highest paying jobs?
  • What are the most popular programming languages, operating systems and software packages used in GIS offices?
  • How much do you need in your budget in order to attract and hire IT and GIS professionals at all levels?

Of course, salaries vary based upon employer type, region, professional and GIS experience. Numerous cross-tabulations of the salary data are included in this publication.

The 2003 URISA Salary Survey has this information and much more. The data presented has been culled from the results of URISA’s salary survey that targeted a comprehensive and representative sample of both the IT and GIS communities primarily, in state and local government.

The next survey will be conducted in 2006, results available in 2007.
