This competition recognizes the increasing importance of community college and certificate program students working with GIS. The poster session will give students an opportunity to participate in a professional setting without preparing a written paper. The session will be judged based on the criteria described below.
Enhance your professionalism, prepare a GIS poster for the 2010 Student Poster Competition!
URISA has a long tradition of encouraging students to participate in the GIS profession. Since 1979, URISA has had a student paper category for the annual conference and proceedings and is pleased to announce this category specifically geared to Community College students and those in a GIS certificate program. Participation will connect you with a network of GIS professionals which is of utmost importance to a successful career. Count on URISA for your professional networking!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Professional participation is often viewed as a plus by hiring professionals. URISA is a professional network that transcends school and your job. Those students who are involved in professional situations demonstrate that they can think fast on their feet and sharpen their ideas and visions.
Participation in preparing and describing a poster for this competition is a good professional start for students involved in GIS. Contributions to the profession - including participation in professional associations like URISA - is one of three criteria for GISCI certification (GISP).
The top ten posters will receive an award of a one-year membership in URISA and will be recommended for free registration at a regional URISA conference. All winners will receive a certificate signed by the URISA President and their submission will be posted on the URISA webpage. The winning posters will also be displayed at URISA's Annual Conference, GIS-Pro 2010.
Submission Deadline: May 1, 2010 (SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 10)
Conference Poster Session: The posters will be displayed during GIS-Pro 2010: URISA's 48th Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida
