2010 Student Competition - Undergraduate Students

Just Announced: 2010 Competition Results

Are you currently enrolled in one or more classes in GIS or are you in a GIS Certificate or degree program?

If yes, your work should be recognized and shared with your peers. You can do this by submitting a GIS Presentation to the 2010 URISA Annual Student Presentation Competition.

URISA seeks to encourage students in a variety of academic disciplines to make professional contributions toward solving real world problems using spatial technologies, especially GIS. To promote this objective URISA has established a student presentation competition.

Winning presentations will be posted on the URISA website and announced through various URISA publications and communications. URISA will award the winning presentations with a one year membership to URISA. The top two presenters will also be given a free registration to GIS-Pro 2010: URISA;s 48th Annual Conference where the student can make their presentation and will also be recognized during the Awards Breakfast during the conference.

Criteria include:

  • Ability to define a problem and to apply GIS toward its solution.
  • Demonstration of knowledge and skill of GIS and its application.
  • Demonstration of knowledge and skill using maps, graphics, tables, charts, images & narrative to construct a presentation.

Submission Guidelines

Deadline: May 1, 2010

Submission Format:  PowerPoint, Keynote, Quick Time, Open Office Impress, HTML or PDF. The presentation must be between 10 and 100 slides. Each slide must have an accompanying narrative. Alternatively, the presentation may have a verbal narrative, but must not be longer than 30 minutes. The presentation can link to websites for live demonstrations and videos.

Be sure to include an "About the Author" slide/page with your contact information.

Copyright: By submitting a presentation, students acknowledge it will be placed on the URISA website. Students are not required to give up exclusive rights in their intellectual work to URISA. Authors retain full but non-exclusive rights in their presentations and may submit them for use in other venues. URISA may place the presentation on its website or in any other format or venue it sees fit. Credit will be given to the Student.
