The current Chair of the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations (COGO) announced today that the Coalition has selected as the 2011 Coalition Chair Ms. Geney Terry, Urban Regional Information Systems Association Delegate to COGO. Curt Sumner, 2010 Chair of COGO and the Executive Director of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping indicated that Ms. Terry’s selection was made by unanimous consent of the Coalition.
URISA seeks to encourage students in a variety of academic settings and disciplines to write and publish papers and projects for the URISA membership and others in the spatial technologies industry. To promote this objective URISA has established a student competition.

Every other month since the 1970's, URISA members have been receiving their copy of URISA News, the association's newsletter covering industry trends and news. 2010 brings a new and improved publication, as URISA debuts THE GIS PROFESSIONAL.
URISA is seeking nominations for it’s GIS Hall of Fame which recognizes and honors the best in GIS. Introduced in 2005, the URISA GIS Hall of Fame documents the contributions made by key individuals. URISA welcomes nominations from any profession and is not restricted to those having a past or current relationship with URISA. This award is not given every year, and in some years there may be multiple recipients.

The King County (Washington) GIS Center and URISA have partnered to launch a new Pacific Northwest Education Center and have announced a full week of URISA-certified workshops, May 3-7, 2010. The five courses were selected from URISA’s portfolio of 24 day-long, GIS-related workshops. URISA-certified workshops are developed, reviewed and maintained by subject matter experts and provide vendor-independent education for GIS professionals and users.

And now the name of URISA’s annual conference has been updated to better reflect that focus. URISA is pleased to announce GIS-Pro 2010: URISA’s 48th Annual Conference for GIS Professionals. The first conference under the new banner will take place September 28-October 1, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.

Ten years after announcing that electronic copies of the URISA Journal would be made freely available to teachers and learners everywhere via the World Wide Web, the Journal’s electronic archives have become one of the richest collections of open educational resources in the geospatial field.
