Nevada County, CA is one of the most picturesque areas in the state. The government office is located in Nevada City, which is situated in the Sierra Foothills at 2,700 feet among tall pines, dogwoods and beautiful maples. We are conveniently located between Sacramento and the Lake Tahoe region.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a creative team environment assisting other GIS staff in the development and ongoing maintenance of the County GIS database and related applications. The candidate should have the ability to effectively prioritize and schedule a variety of work assignments, possess good verbal and written communication skills when working with technical and non-technical staff and establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other county departments, outside agencies and the Public.
This position is responsible for performing a variety of technical and general assignments which include preparing, updating and interpreting a wide variety of maps and related data; independently researching and reconciling geographic data from sources with varying accuracy; knowledgeably operating in the ESRI ArcGIS 9.x software environment and database applications with an understanding of the operations required to complete a task successfully; performing editing and maintenance of geodatabase and shapefile formats; and the willingness to learn new spatial processes, tools and techniques in GIS. Experience working with Trimble GPS units, Pathfinder Office, ArcPad and GPS Analyst is a plus.
Minimum Requirements:
GIS Technician I: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree, including coursework in geographic information systems, planning, geography, physical sciences, forestry, information systems, surveying, computer science, cartography, or a closely related field; plus one year of experience working with automated mapping and GIS systems; ArcInfo/ArcGIS and Arcview experience is preferred; experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
GIS Technician II (in addition to the above): Two years of professional experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County’s classification of GIS Technician I.
