URISA Leadership Academy
December 7-11, 2009 – Seattle
Five Days of Targeted GIS LEADERSHIP TRAINING…taught by GIS Leaders!

Why the URISA Leadership Academy?
There are many conferences each year for GIS technical training. But what happens when you get to the top rungs of your organization's career ladder and find you are lacking the “soft skills” necessary to manage, lead, and inspire others? URISA developed the Leadership Academy (ULA) to fill this gap:
• ULA instructors have decades of experience in business and personnel management, leadership, hiring, ethics, budgeting, communication, negotiation, and crisis management.
• ULA sessions and course materials transfer these concepts to attendees through a combination of instruction and interactive lessons.
The URISA Leadership Academy, the only leadership training program of its type, is tailored to professionals like you faced with unique challenges of GIS leadership and management and who want to make an impact leveraging the power of GIS. Since its debut in December 2007, nearly 200 GIS professionals have taken advantage of this program.
Here is just a sample of the reviews:
• “I learned more than expected. This is the first time I've been able to interact with, almost exclusively, GIS managers, coordinators and GIOs.”
• “The greatest takeaways for me: management and leadership techniques, how to make excellent reports, creating effective budget proposals, strategic planning and marketing planning, collaboration and focusing on small wins.”
• “It inspired new ideas on integration and getting the word out about GIS. The review of strategic planning and ROI was excellent.”
• “The URISA Leadership Academy was well worth it. I enjoyed having the opportunity to network with GIS professionals who are facing the same challenges as me.”
• “Excellent. Very worthwhile in many aspects.”
• “The ULA was a comprehensive and organized interchange of experiences being facilitated by professionals who work in the same field I do. It was so valuable to realize that the issues I have in my workplace are NOT unique, that others have experienced and successfully negotiated the minefield.”
Bottom line…100% of the December 2008 ULA graduates said they would recommend the ULA to a colleague or coworker!
Limited Participation: The ULA requires a hands-on approach to learning. These lessons cannot be learned in a large auditorium no matter how talented the instructors. ULA attendance is capped at 75 participants. Don't wait. Register now.
