The Transportation Planning Analyst GIS undertakes research projects and technical planning support using database packages and Geographic Information System

  • Researches and analyzes trends related to planning issues, demographics, employment and travel behavior, and develops and recommends methodologies, data sources, and techniques
  • Provides technical and administrative input to a variety of transportation planning functions
  • Maintains spatial databases of the GVTA’s Planning Division, facilitating data exchange with other agencies, and helping to design and implement GIS improvements and establish enterprise GIS database standards
  • Conducts computer programming in various applications to advance GIS performance and efficiency
  • Works on GIS and data issues related to the regional transportation model and network and conducts Feature Manipulation Engine modelling
  • Carries out GIS and mapping related work and data requests
  • Designs and coordinates data collection surveys
  • Processes and creates digital cartographic files
  • Utilizes GIS software to prepare a variety of supporting maps for meetings and documents

Qualifications

University degree in engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, geography or related field, with emphasis on survey research techniques, demography, statistics, analytical techniques, transportation systems and planning, and geographical information systems. Minimum 2 years experience in transportation planning and GIS, together with sound knowledge of computer technology and programming with GIS software and its relevant application and the ability to perform detailed analytical and research tasks.
