ULA Session 3 - Building Organizational Capacity as GIS Leaders

Building and enhancing the GIS capacity of an organization requires leaders to effectively promote the potential of spatial technologies to the business and predict the financial impact of GIS technologies to the organization. Learn how to encourage the increased use of GIS technology in your organization, how to educate decision makers on the contributions GIS can make to improve processes and decisions within an organization, and build your GIS financial knowledge base through the following topics:

Capacity Building Concepts 

--Develop and strengthen skills, instincts, and abilities that organizations and communities need to thrive in the fast-changing world.

Cost Based Accounting and ROI Concepts

--Learn the power of quantifiable benefits and the mystery of non-quantifiable benefits 

Funding Strategies for Leaders

--Learn budgeting concepts and collaborative and innovative funding strategies

Needs Assessment as a Leadership Tool

--Learn needs assessment tools to enable self assessment, organizational assessment and best practices

Effective Outreach & Leadership in Alliance Building.

--Understand the components of outreach; education, marketing, politics and relationships

Displaying Leadership to Leaders at Budget Time.

--Learn how to navigate the process, the compelling budget documents you will need and budget presentation skills

Note that Session 3 will begin during breakfast and extend into the early evening. The day will challenge you to think creatively and act outside of your comfort zone.
