This position serves as the Systems Engineer in the City's Center for Geospatial Information Services. In that capacity, the individual analyzes and installs manufacturer supplied system software and hardware to maintain or enhance the GIS operating system and configuration; plans and administers such projects to establish impact and scope, establish schedules and to ensure satisfactory and timely completion of work; designs, prepares, and reviews hardware specifications, GIS software configurations, RFPs, contracts, and other documents to ensure compliance with city policies and modern principles of geospatial information processing; reviews installation instructions for compatibility with multi-vendor configuration that facilitates the City's GIS and GIS-related operations and processes; participates in the selection of software and hardware products; trains and may direct work of junior system engineers; tailors GIS system software and configuration to optimize performance; provides technical advice to management and other personnel on software and hardware projections, capabilities, and limitations; performs problem solving to provide around-the-clock system availability.
NOTE: Must be able to install, configure and maintain GIS Specific Applications; ESRI Arc-SDE, Arc-IMS, Geomedia Pro, Oracle Spatial Database Systems and integrate with Infor-Hansen, Accela, Manatron Proval-GRM, Crime-view, Google Maps, Virtual Earth, and/or related products.
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to at least eight (8) years of creditable IT work, one year of which must include systems programming, operating, and/or technical systems analysis.
