Call for Workshops

The URISA Workshop Development Committee is once again soliciting new workshops for development and for presentation at the URISA GIS-Pro annual user conference, Chapter meetings and as standalone courses that will be presented dynamically in live presentations or via the web.  Our major goal is to make connections between old and new, theory and practice, research and policy, technology and organization, plans and programs, purpose and function.

Each year, the Workshop Development Committee, instructors, authors and reviewers develop new workshops and update the existing workshops URISA offers.  To remain relevant, however, it is paramount that we develop new workshops to meet our members’ needs for top-quality education on the most important topics in the field.

We invite you to submit a proposal to develop a new eight-hour, four-hour, or a shorter web-based URISA Certified Workshop.  We are looking for full length programs to fill eight-hour pre-conference workshop slots at the GIS-Pro conference and at chapter events.

New workshop proposals must identify a specific niche or need. This could be a new topic or a significant improvement of an existing workshop.  This year URISA is soliciting new workshop topics from the membership but we are also requesting a specific proposal for a Return on Investment (ROI) and GIS workshop to be developed in 2011.

Not ready for the task of creating a new workshop? If you are interested in helping to update an existing workshop, we do have a slate of workshops that are in need of rework.   The following workshops need attention:

  • Database Development and Conversion
  • Digital Imagery & Remote Sensing
  • Metadata

Criteria:

Proposers, coordinators and instructors must be URISA members. A workshop must be presented with a minimum of two instructors. The workbook may not be copyrighted by the author or contain proprietary materials which may preclude URISA's use of the workbook/workshop at other URISA conferences. If interested in submitting a certified workshop proposal, follow the schedule and steps below.

Workshop Proposal Schedule

  • January 24, 2011: Proposals due
  • February 14, 2011: Notification of acceptance
  • May 23, 2011: First draft of workbook due
  • August 29, 2010: Final draft of workbook due
  • November 1, 2011: Presentation of workshops at the 2011GIS-Pro,  URISA Annual Conference in Indianapolis, IN
